NEW YORK — Following the first public hearing of New York State’s Public Campaign Financing Commission, Stand Up America released the following statement:

“Time is running out for the commission do its job and seize this historic opportunity to give New York’s working families a real voice in Albany by decreasing the influence of big-moneyed interests in our state’s politics. We’re demanding that the commission both lower campaign contribution limits and enact a strong 6-to-1 small-dollar matching system for all candidates running for office in New York.

“We’re committed to ensuring that this commission operates in the sunlight and listens to the will of everyday New Yorkers who are demanding critical reforms to our campaign finance system that will shift the power structure in New York politics for generations to come.”

In 2019, Stand Up America’s members have made over 10,000 calls to state lawmakers demanding a small-dollar matching system and in support of automatic voter registration. Earlier this summer, Stand Up America drove more than 2,200 emails to the appointed commissioners demanding a 6-to-1 small-dollar matching system and lower contribution limits in New York State.

As part of Fair Elections NY, a coalition of more than 200 groups pushing for campaign finance reform in New York, Stand Up America will continue ramping up its digital organizing efforts over the coming months to keep pressure on the commission ahead of the December 1, 2019 deadline.
