Stand Up America Lauds Senate Democrats For Introducing the For the People Act As S. 1

With Senate Democrats introducing the For the People Act as S. 1 today, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

“While GOP lawmakers across the country propose legislation that would strip millions of Americans of their right to vote, Senate Democrats have introduced sweeping legislation that would protect voting rights, reduce the impact of big money in our elections, and add tens of millions of eligible Americans to the voter rolls.

“While we applaud the congressional Democrats who have championed the For the People Act in both chambers, too much is at stake to delay a vote on this critical legislation or to allow archaic Senate rules to kill the bill.

“The only path forward now for Democrats to stop Republicans from suppressing the vote is to swiftly end the filibuster and pass The For the People Act now.”

Stand Up America first endorsed the For the People Act in 2019 and has since driven thousands of calls to Congress in support of the legislation. Yesterday, the group announced a six-figure campaign which will mobilize Stand Up America’s community of over two million progressives to ensure that Republicans cannot abuse the legislative filibuster to stop the bill.
