Responding to the announcement that Donald Trump has nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge issued the following the statement:

“Instead of allowing the American people to decide who selects the next justice, Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are shamelessly using the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to pack the Supreme Court before the next president is sworn in. Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett means yet another ultra-conservative jurist could be confirmed to a lifetime term on the Court—and that is unacceptable.

“The American people see this rushed process for what it is: An attempt to cement a right-wing supermajority on the highest court in order to dismantle the Affordable Care Act in the middle of a pandemic and overturn Roe v. Wade.

“Senate Democrats must remain unwavering in their opposition to this nomination, and GOP senators will be held accountable if they vote to confirm.”
