After 52 Republican senators voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, with unanimous opposition from the Senate Democratic Caucus and a single GOP senator, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

“More than sixty million Americans have already cast their ballots, but that didn’t stop Mitch McConnell from orchestrating a sham confirmation process that flies in the face of precedent and goes against the will of the American people.

“By ramming through a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court that could be the deciding vote to overturn the Affordable Care Act in the middle of a pandemic, Senate Republicans have once again shown that they care more about power than people’s lives and livelihoods. Now, they will answer to the voters.

“The only way to protect our health care, our democracy, and our fundamental rights is to elect Joe Biden and flip the Senate in eight days. This illegitimate power grab leaves Democrats no choice but to reform our courts next year, including enacting term limits and expanding the number of seats to restore balance to the judiciary.”
