Following the historic vote in the House of Representatives tonight passing the For the People Act (H.R. 1), Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge issued the following statement:

“House Democrats have once again delivered on their promise to the American people by passing the For the People Act—and prioritizing the work of repairing our democracy at the start of the new Congress. This sweeping bill would strengthen voting rights, add tens of millions of eligible new voters to the rolls, and dramatically reduce the impact of big money in our elections.

“We applaud House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Administration Committee Chair Rep. Zoe Lofgren, and Democracy Reform Task Force Chair Rep. John Sarbanes for continuing to champion this bill through the House of Representatives.

“The Senate must swiftly take up the For the People Act and ensure Republicans are unable to abuse the filibuster to block this transformational legislation from becoming law. As the 2020 election and the Capitol insurrection so clearly showed, too much is at stake to let an archaic rule prevent us from fortifying our democracy.”
