NEW YORK — Following today’s vote in the Virginia House of Delegates passing the National Popular Vote bill, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

“We commend the Virginia House of Delegates for standing up for our democracy by working to ensure that the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote is the person who becomes President of the United States.

“With a new legislature in Virginia, we have a real shot at enacting this bill—and it’s now up to the Virginia Senate to pass the National Popular Vote bill this session.

“Enacting the National Popular Vote Compact is about strengthening our democracy and honoring the will of the people—and by passing this legislation in enough states, we will ensure that every vote, in every state, will matter in every presidential election.”

In recent weeks, Stand Up America has driven more than 2,000 constituent calls to lawmakers in Virginia urging them to support the National Popular Vote bill.
