NEW YORK — Following reports that a spending deal agreed upon by House and Senate negotiators includes $425 million for states to improve election security, Stand Up America’s Political Director Brett Edkins released the following statement.

“While Moscow Mitch and Republican senators routinely blocked election security measures this year in the Senate, grassroots activists across the country continued to pressure Congress to approve election security funding—and this victory belongs to them.

“We implore Republican and Democratic lawmakers to support this funding in the final spending bill to empower state and local election officials to implement essential election security priorities.”

Earlier this year, Stand Up America launched a six-figure campaign to pressure ‘Moscow Mitch’ and Republican senators to back $600 million in election security funding. The campaign included a billboard in Kentucky targeting ‘Moscow Mitch,’ a volunteer-driven peer-to-peer text messaging program that has contacted hundreds of thousands of voters, digital ads targeting national audiences, and other digital organizing tactics.

In November 2019, Stand Up America and a dozen coalition partners sent a letter to Leaders McConnell and Schumer demanding the funding be included in an appropriations bill.
