Group Calls On Senate To Prioritize Democracy Reform

After Democrats flipped control of the U.S. Senate following Senators Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Alex Padilla (D-CA), and Reverend Raphael Warnock being sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

“With new leadership in the White House and Senate, we now have an historic opportunity to enact the structural reforms needed to build our democracy back better. It’s time to break down the barriers to progress that have blocked action for decades on everything from climate action and gun safety to economic inequality.

“In the coming weeks and months, Stand Up America’s community of over two million progressives will ramp up our organizing for bold, structural reforms that will make our government more representative and responsive to the will of the American people—fighting to enact the For The People Act, eliminate the filibuster, pass D.C. statehood, and restore the Voting Rights Act.

“Our democracy was given another chance today and, with this new mandate, it’s time to hold our elected officials accountable, build our democracy back better, and make meaningful progress for the American people.”
