ICYMI: 30+ Progressive Groups Demand Senate Cancel Recess To Approve Election Funds

Last Friday, a coalition of over 30 progressive groups and grassroots organizations led by Stand Up America wrote an open letter to Mitch McConnell demanding that the Senate cancel the remaining congressional recess and immediately return to Washington, D.C.

The groups—which included Color of Change, Common Cause, Fair Fight Action, Indivisible, MoveOn, Let America Vote, League of Women Voters, Public Citizen, Unidos, and Voto Latino—demanded that the Senate immediately grant an additional $3.6 billion in federal funding for states to administer safe, fair, and accessible elections this fall.

The letter reads: “It should be clear to senators of both parties that the cost of ensuring that every eligible voter can safely cast their ballot amid this pandemic is a small price to pay to preserve our democracy—but given your efforts to block this funding over the past two months, it bears repeating that this pandemic continues to threaten the very foundation of our democracy.”

The coalition continues to demand that the Senate return to work this week.
