President Biden laid out a bold, ambitious agenda during his speech tonight—including committing to sign into law legislation that would protect our freedom to vote and root out corruption in our politics. And he’s right—Congress needs to pass both the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

In January, Stand Up America announced a new grassroots campaign to pressure lawmakers at the state and federal level to prioritize building our democracy back better during the first 100 days of President Joe Biden’s term. Since then, Stand Up America has mobilized our community members to oppose the GOP’s assaults on voting, expand access to the ballot, and pass bold legislation in Congress that would protect the freedom to vote, like the For the People Act (S. 1).

Our votes should count equally in every single election, no matter our zip code or the party that happens to be controlling the legislature in our state—but today we’re reminded that the rules of redistricting are still rigged in far too many states to empower some voters and silence others.
