Write Letters to Voters in Georgia
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the White House this year — and wouldn’t have been able to do so without Georgia turning blue for the first time in decades. But the work in the Peach State is not over yet, and Georgia voters will have the opportunity to vote for who represents them in the Senate in the January 5th runoff.
Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff have both made affordable health care, improving education, and voting and civil rights a priority in this election. They are committed to combating the coronavirus crisis by listening to experts, and to passing an economic relief package that will expand unemployment insurance, assist renters and homeowners, and give states the funding they need to survive and recover from this pandemic.
They are running against two ardent Trump supporters known for their corruption and their failure to stand up for the needs of Georgia: Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.
The stakes of this election couldn’t possibly be higher for the country. Unless Democrats win both of these seats and flip the senate, Mitch McConnell will continue to be able to block everything from voting rights to COVID relief to a real response to the climate crisis. That’s why we need every eligible voter in Georgia to cast their ballot in this runoff.
We’ve partnered with Vote Forward to mobilize potential voters in a way that’s safe for our community and the folks we are trying to reach: personalized letters.
Who Receives the Letters?
For the Georgia Senate runoffs, potential Georgia voters are placed into a few different campaigns. A new campaign type and batch of voters is unlocked once all the letter recipients in the previous campaign type have been adopted:
- Vote by mail and absentee ballot letters: Encourage Georgians who voted by mail or absentee in the general election to request their ballots as soon as possible.
- Get out the vote letters: Encourage Georgians who are likely to vote in person (either early in person or on election day). These campaigns will be activated once the voters in the ballot request campaign are all adopted. You’ll be mailing these letters on December 7th.
How Does It Work?
As a letter-writer, you will be responsible for “adopting” voters and writing a personalized note to them explaining why you vote and encouraging them to vote along with you. Then, you’ll send your letters now or right before the early voting period begins so your message makes the biggest impact possible.
Writing letters is simple and straightforward. You will need:
- Access to a computer
- Access to a printer
- A blue ink pen (to make your handwritten message stand out)
- Envelopes
- Stamps
To get started, you need to make an account through https://VoteFwd.org/StandUpAmerica. Within 24-48 hours, you’ll be approved by an administrator.
Once approved, you can adopt a batch of voters (as few as 5 and as many as 20 at a time). By adopting them, you’re committing to write to them, and they will not be assigned to anyone else. You will then download a PDF file that has your letter templates and the information you will need for mailing your letter and write a personalized note to your letter recipients, urging them to vote in the January 5, 2021 Georgia runoff. Next, update your Vote Forward account indicating that you’ve prepared the letters.

Why Letters?
Studies have shown that writing letters to voters increases their likelihood of voting. A voter is more likely to turn out to vote if they receive a personalized message from another voter, and according to the Analyst Institute, letters are 3-4 times more effective at turning out voters than handwritten postcards.
